Lyrics:
Papa I know you're going to be upset
'Cause I was always your little girl
But you should know by now
I'm not a baby
You always taught me right from wrong
I need your help, daddy please be strong
I may be young at heart
But I know what I'm saying
The one you warned me about
The one you said I could do without
We're in an awful mess, and I don't mean maybe, please
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, oh, I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, Ooh, I'm going to keep my baby, ooh
He saws that hes going to marry me
We can raise a little family
Maybe we'll be alright
It's a sacrifice
But my friends keep telling me to give it up
Saying I'm too young, I ought to live it up
What I need right now is some good advice, please
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, oh, I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, Ooh, I'm going to keep my baby, ooh
Daddy, daddy if you could only see
Just how good he's been treating me
You'd give us a blessing right now
Cause we are in love, we are in love, so please
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, oh, I'm keeping my baby
Ooh, Ooh, I'm going to keep my baby, ooh
Don't stop loving me daddy
I know, I'm keeping me baby
Don't stop loving me daddy
I know, I'm keeping my baby
Trivia:
This is the second single by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her 3rd studio Album 'True Blue.' It was an international #1 hit and caused huge controversy with its music video depicting a pregnant young teenage mother. This sing also earned Madonna her first praise from former critics from across the political spectrum.
Despite, perhaps because of, the controversy surrounding the song, it was a huge success that topped the singles chart in several countries. It was an enormous success in Europe, topping the Eurochart Hot 100 for 11 weeks.
The songwriters were sued by the writer of the song, 'Sugar Don't Bite' - a song recorded by Sam Harris for his debut album in 1984. They claimed that the song was plagiarized and won an unspecified amount.
In a harder pop punk style, was covered in 2002 by Kelly Osbourne and members of Incubus for 'The Osbourne Family' Album. In both the versions, there is a shirt with a quote, 'Italians do it better.' Madonna is wearing this shirt and Kelly Osbourne has it hanging behind her.
